I got to school on time today (for once).  Then Miss Morris gave us our instructions and we went to band and study hall.  I can’t tell you what happened at band, because I was in study hall with Juwan, Kassandra, and Emily.

Then we went to music.  We did these things where you have to crack the code to find the answer.  We didn’t do anything else for music class.

Then we went to math.  We did math tests.  I am not sure if we did anything else.  (I can’t remember).

Then we had English.  We went to the computer lab for MAP testing. I don’t know what else happened for the rest of English because I was doing MAP until recess.

Then we had recess and lunch.  Then we had reward recess.  It is something we do where if you got all your homework in for the rest of the week you get an extra recess on Friday.

Then we started a spelling test, but in the middle of it we had to go to the assembly.  You already know what happened during the assembly, so I’m not going to tell you.

Then we finished the spelling test.  Then we got ready to go home and went home.

First when we walked up to the classroom, we did lunch count, and talked quietly around the room while some people read.  After that we walked down to band class.

In band we played a few songs and then got to see what chair we had gotten from the day before when we had had a chair placement test.  (I got first.  “Yay!”) Then we played some mroe songs.  Then we walked back upstairs to music class.

When we came in Mrs. T. passed out some worksheets we have been working on lately.  Then when that part of class was over we practiced singing a song, and then sang it in Do, Re, Mi form.  After that we walked all the way back up the stairs for math.

In math we got a Habits of Mind bookmark fro the teacher.  Then we corrected our math lesson’s homework 88 odd.  Then we had a lesson out of our book about square roots.  After that we had a chance to do some of our homework on 89 odd, and an AM.  Then we transitioned over to Reading/Language Arts.

First we talked about the visualization worksheet we had done the day before.  Then we got another worksheet.  With a partner we had to re-read the story called The Search.  We then got out an older worksheet and watched some commercials to write notes about.  Then we lined up for lunch and recess.

At recess everyone messed around and played, then went in for lunch, ate, messed around some more, , lined uo, and then walked upstairs for A.R. reading time.

In A.R. we read.  Then a few people got called up to get paid for the week.  Once that was done we all lined up for social studies.

We walked into Miss B’s room, sat down, and waited for our assignment.  The teacher must have been in a good mood because when we walked in she announced there would be no social studies test, and instead we would be doing some “for fun” worksheets that we did not have to turn in.  Then we lined up to go back to Ms. Morris’s class for science class.

In science class we were given two worksheets, pennies, two silver tings, and a ruler with a half of a sticky note on each end.  Then we did an experiment.  When that was done we finally went to get planners, filled them out, put our stuff in our backpacks, played mum ball, went to get our intruments, and went home for the day.

A Day in the Life of a CCA Cougar

Hello fellow cougars, Emily reporting today on the happenings in room 36, also known as Ms. Morris’s fifth grade class.  Today is Tuesday, February 19 and it is our first day back from the long President’s Day weekend.

The first things we did today was morning business.  Things like picking our lunch and getting ready for band.  Ms. Morris also welcomed us back and she told us to make sure we turn in our late work and our late slips.  Most of the class then lined up for band.  Everyone was acting like wild animals and running around.  Ms. Morris told us we should all quiet down, and talked about the importance of staying quiet.  We made it down to band in what seemed like record time, vroom.

The class poured into the band room like a bug ball of crazy people.  We all attacked the “band cave” at once.  It looked like a bunch of fish stuck in a net.  We all finally retrieved our instruments, turned in our practice cards, and sat in our assigned seats.  Ms. M. taught us about new notes and new emphasizing notes.  We played a small series of Christmas music, and some old music that we played numerous times.  I have to say that we are sounding pretty darn good.  We have come a long way since the beginning of the year, and all thanks to Ms. Mitchell.  At the end of band we put our instruments away and lined up for gym.

In gym we learned how to double-dutch with a jump rope.  The girls had to chase the boys to make them jump into the ropes.  The boys were “butt bouncing” and the girls were doing twirl cross spin jump, and jump-in then twirl.  At the end of gym Mr. B told us to line up.  We were returning to Ms. Morris’s class for math.  Ms. Morris led our quiet and exausted class upstairs to room 36.

Next, it was math, not my favorite subject.  We learned about splitting up fractions and subtracting them.  Math time was very quiet because we were all concentrating on learning the new fraction techniques.  After math was time for ELA.  We read a story called “The Tale of the Yupik Eskimos”.  It did not interest me much because it was non-fiction and the story was fat and long.  Finally, it was time for recess, and we scrambled down the steps just to find out it was inside recess.  People stil had a wild recess by acting crazy.  We filed into lunch where most people chosebetween spaghetti or corn dogs.  After lunch we quietly went to AR.

AR was nice and quiet today as we all read our own books and some of us took AR tests.  Social Studies was next with Miss Bellgowan.  We learned about early Russia and we had to fill out our hand-outs for our unit assignment test on Early Russia.  I also learned that the “c” in czar is silent.  We had to take our work home if we did not finish it at school.  We then went back to Ms. Morris’s class for science.

In science we learned about heat changes.  Then, before we realized it was the end of the day.  We all got some great news that was unexpected.  Our fifth grade class is going to have a talent show.  Just as we were celebrating the news Ms. Morris told us to et ready to go home.

The dial-a-ride kids have to line up early, which includes me.  This has to be the end of today’s roving reporter.  Until next time, this has been Emily reporting.

Valentine’s Day

We all came in, sat down, and worked on our Valentine’s card bag.  Ms. Morris talked a little bit, then we looked at the time and it was time for band class.

Some kids stayed and some kids went.  In band class we played a song and tested on it.  The flutes and clarinets did great.  Rachel, Sara, Ryan got first chair, Hannah got second, and so on.

In music class we had a substitute, Mrs. Barger.  She is so nice.  We did worksheets, then she played songs on the piano that we all knew.  Then we watched parts of movies for the songs.

In math we corrected our two lessons and so on.

We had no reading, language arts, social studies, or science today.
