Hello fellow cougars, Emily reporting today on the happenings in room 36, also known as Ms. Morris’s fifth grade class. Today is Tuesday, February 19 and it is our first day back from the long President’s Day weekend.
The first things we did today was morning business. Things like picking our lunch and getting ready for band. Ms. Morris also welcomed us back and she told us to make sure we turn in our late work and our late slips. Most of the class then lined up for band. Everyone was acting like wild animals and running around. Ms. Morris told us we should all quiet down, and talked about the importance of staying quiet. We made it down to band in what seemed like record time, vroom.
The class poured into the band room like a bug ball of crazy people. We all attacked the “band cave” at once. It looked like a bunch of fish stuck in a net. We all finally retrieved our instruments, turned in our practice cards, and sat in our assigned seats. Ms. M. taught us about new notes and new emphasizing notes. We played a small series of Christmas music, and some old music that we played numerous times. I have to say that we are sounding pretty darn good. We have come a long way since the beginning of the year, and all thanks to Ms. Mitchell. At the end of band we put our instruments away and lined up for gym.
In gym we learned how to double-dutch with a jump rope. The girls had to chase the boys to make them jump into the ropes. The boys were “butt bouncing” and the girls were doing twirl cross spin jump, and jump-in then twirl. At the end of gym Mr. B told us to line up. We were returning to Ms. Morris’s class for math. Ms. Morris led our quiet and exausted class upstairs to room 36.
Next, it was math, not my favorite subject. We learned about splitting up fractions and subtracting them. Math time was very quiet because we were all concentrating on learning the new fraction techniques. After math was time for ELA. We read a story called “The Tale of the Yupik Eskimos”. It did not interest me much because it was non-fiction and the story was fat and long. Finally, it was time for recess, and we scrambled down the steps just to find out it was inside recess. People stil had a wild recess by acting crazy. We filed into lunch where most people chosebetween spaghetti or corn dogs. After lunch we quietly went to AR.
AR was nice and quiet today as we all read our own books and some of us took AR tests. Social Studies was next with Miss Bellgowan. We learned about early Russia and we had to fill out our hand-outs for our unit assignment test on Early Russia. I also learned that the “c” in czar is silent. We had to take our work home if we did not finish it at school. We then went back to Ms. Morris’s class for science.
In science we learned about heat changes. Then, before we realized it was the end of the day. We all got some great news that was unexpected. Our fifth grade class is going to have a talent show. Just as we were celebrating the news Ms. Morris told us to et ready to go home.
The dial-a-ride kids have to line up early, which includes me. This has to be the end of today’s roving reporter. Until next time, this has been Emily reporting.
